Assistant Principal-Judaic Studies, Grades 1-5
Job Description:
The Assistant Principal of Judaic Studies in Grades 1-5 supervises the Judaic Studies program of the Elementary School of the Yeshiva of Central Queens, reporting directly to the Principal. Additionally, the Assistant Principal functions as a member of the Administrative Team collaborating with the Principal, Early Childhood Director, Elementary Assistant Principal of General Studies, and the Junior High School Assistant Principals of both Judaic and General Studies, making key strategic decisions critical to the continued successful management and growth of the entire yeshiva.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Development, implementation, assessment, and review of Judaic Studies curriculum in all Judaic subject areas such as: tefilah, chumash, rashi, navi, parsha, kriah, ivrit, halacha, yediyot klaliyot, middot, and mishna.
- Hiring and evaluating Judaic Studies Teachers in Grades 1-5
- Hiring and managing of assistant teachers in both Judaic and General Studies.
- Supervision of lunchroom, recess, arrival, and dismissal of grades 1-5
- Organizing and implementing Judaic Studies activities and programs such as Chesed Trips, Rosh Chodesh Ruach assemblies, Brachot Bee, Torah Bee, Yom Ha’atzmaut Events, Yom HaZikaron Program, Yom HaShoah Ceremony, Lag B’Omer Activities, Tu B’Shevat, Israel Fair, Siddur Presentations, Chumash Presentations, Chanukah and Purim Programs.
- Lesson observations both informal and formal
- Monthly grade level meetings with faculty to assess student performance, curriculum development, and classroom activities
- Yearly student class placement meetings
- Participate in weekly Student Progress meeting with administration, as well as the School Psychologist and Director of Student Services
- Periodic communication/presentations to the YCQ Board of Education
- Supervise Judaic Studies Enrichment Program
The Yeshiva of Central Queens (YCQ) is seeking an Assistant Principal for Judaic Studies in Grades 1-5, starting July 1, 2022, reporting directly to the Principal.
The responsibilities of the position include:
- Creating a nurturing environment which incorporates a close relationship of mutual respect between educators, parents, and students
- Hiring, supervising, and evaluating the Judaic Studies faculty in grades 1-5
- Developing, implementing, supervising, and assessing the Judaic Studies curriculum in all Judaic subject areas for grades 1-5
- Ensuring the welfare of our students
Qualified candidates should possess the following:

- Commitment to professional development

- An appreciation of an Ivrit b’Ivrit curriculum
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of an Administrative Team
Prior administrative experience is highly desirable.
