Rav Bet Sefer
HAFTR, an educationally progressive Modern Orthodox Yeshiva Day School, located in Nassau County, seeks a dynamic rabbinic leader for the position of Rav Bet Sefer. This is a full-time, 10-month position, responsible for acting as the rabbinic leader for grades N – 8, and the rabbinic face of HAFTR to the community. The Rav Bet Sefer’s rabbinic responsibilities include designing and implementing activities to instill in students a love of Judaism, providing religious guidance to parents and faculty when appropriate, acting as a thought partner in the continued development of the Judaic Studies curriculum, and contributing to the religious life and culture of the school through a variety of activities, including erev Shabbat oneg. The ideal candidate for this position will be a charismatic and compassionate leader and educator who will motivate, empower and collaborate with the entire school community to set the course for sustained growth. This position will be best filled by a candidate who possesses exemplary communication skills and a high emotional quotient, and who will demonstrate a genuine passion and appreciation for each student and his or her well-being.
For this critical role, HAFTR is seeking a candidate with an ability to communicate and articulate the vision, mission, values and ideas of the yeshiva in an inspiring, thoughtful and consensus-building manner to all constituencies. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic relationship builder who displays a sincere interest in each student and engages each with the values and ethos of the school.
HAFTR facilitates a warm, student-centered learning environment that offers a rigorous Judaic and General Studies curriculum. Our educational program, which is driven by data and inquiry-based instruction, fosters creative and independent thinking skills while also being designed to provide access for all students in our diverse community of learners.
HAFTR’s instructional focus is predicated on our commitment to developing each student’s capacity for academic and intellectual achievement. Our faculty is galvanized around our shared mission to develop each student’s capacity to learn, both individually and collaboratively, and to cultivate each student’s growth mindset. Complex and open-ended essential questions frame each of our units of study, and our teachers position students to develop deep understandings of the how (processes) and why (significance of) as it relates to their work.
HAFTR’s academic curriculum is buttressed by rich extracurricular and social emotional learning (SEL) programs. Students involve themselves in a wide array of activities including robotics, debate, Torah Bowl, student government, as well as athletic teams and community service and chesed projects. As a foundation for all of our learning, SEL teaches students how to regulate their emotions, connect effectively with others, and develop their strengths in service of having better relationships, increased resilience and improved wellbeing.
The Rav Bet Sefer will work with the K – 8 Principal and the School Leadership Team, along with other HAFTR school leaders, beginning in September of 2022.
